Microgynon

Microgynon is primarily designed to prevent pregnancy from occurring. It is a contraceptive pill that mimics estrogen and progesterone found in woman's body. It is made up of Ethinylestradiol which substitute the role of estrogen and Levonorgestrel that substitutes the role of progesterone. Microgynon is a low-dose combined oral contraceptive preparation. Its primary goal is to decrease or terminate the chances of ovulation in menstrual cycle. Each tablet of Microgynon consists of 0.15 mg of levonorgestrel and 0.03 mg of ethinylestradiol. Furthermore, its components includes several substances such as Lactose Monohydrate, maize starch, providone 25, talc, magnesium stearate, sucrose, yellow ferric oxide pigment, etc.

Microgynon Action Mechanism

Normal menstrual cycle consists of different phases, follicular or proliferative phase and luteal or ovulatory phase. Your follicular phase starts at the first day of your menstruation, it continuous until 10-14 days. Your estrogen and progesterone is at its lowest level during this phase. At the end of menstruation, your endometrium (lining of your uterus) will begin to thicken, after two weeks, Follicle Luteinizing Hormone level will increase which stimulates the production of your estrogen. Once estrogen level increases, luteinizing hormone will be produce by your pituitary gland causing the release of the mature egg from the fallopian tube. Production of progesterone will then increase. At this time your mature egg will go down to your uterus. Your progesterone and estrogen will continue to rise stimulating your endometrium to prepare for pregnancy, however if pregnancy does not occur you will have your menstruation.

This natural mechanism of woman's body is what Microgynon is trying to mimic. By administering Microgynon contraceptive pills orally, it will mislead the body by increasing the level of estrogen and progesterone, letting your body thinks that ovulation is already present, thereby inhibiting the eggs to be released from the ovaries. It also thickens and changes the composition of your endometrium making it harder for the sperm cells to penetrate the womb.

Microgynon Indication

It is primarily indicated for women who avoid pregnancy. However, since Microgynon results in lighter, less discomfort and painful menstrual cycle, it is also indicated for women you suffers from irregular heavy or may be painful periods.

Microgynon Mode of Administration

Microgynon pack contains twenty-one tablets that are designated to be consume from day one of your menstruation up to day twenty-first. One tablet per day will be enough. After you consume all twenty-one tablets in twenty-one days, you have to take seven days rest periods. This is to let your body reduce the hormone level in your body.

According to studies, Microgynon is an effective method as long you will take it continuously every day plus the rest periods. You will not need other contraceptive method to protect yourself. After pregnancy, when the child is born, your doctor may suggest to wait for your first normal period before taking the pill again. If ever you’ll forget to take your pills once then you must start taking it immediately however if you missed taking your pills more than once you may need to use Contraindication and Caution

Surprisingly, there’s a lot of precautions and contraindication when taking Microgynon. Women who have an impaired blood circulation or disorder related to thrombosis are contraindicated.
