Generic Latisse

Bimatoprost opthamic eye drops are used to treat particular conditions of the eye, like ocular hypertension and open-angle glaucoma. These diseases develop as you get older. Glaucoma is the result of increased eye pressure and can lead to pain and loss of vision. Bimatoprost can help you keep your vision by eliminating the eye pressure and stopping the pain.

A recent popular use of Generic Latisse is for the treatment of hyptrichosis (not enough eyelashes).  Latisse works to increase the growth of your lashes and makes them thicker, longer, and darker. This solution is not available without a doctor’s prescription. Generic Latisse  is similar to a natural chemical found in the body called prostaglandin. Common name brands of Generic Latisse include Lumigan, and Ganfort.

Mechanism of Action

Bimatoprost stimulates the rate of aqueous humor flow, thus enhancing the pressure sensitive outflow pathway. In addition, it lowers the extraocular pressure of the eye. These measures are beneficial for the treatment of glaucoma. Experts do not know the exact way Bimatoprost works for hyptrichosis, but they believe it affects the active growth stage, known as the anagen stage, in two ways. First, it elongates the length of the anagen eyelash growth stage. Second, Bimatoprost increases the number of hairs that are produced during this active growth stage.

How to Use Generic Latisse

The dosing of the medication will be different for different individuals and depends on what condition is being treated. Follow your doctor’s instructions and do not use more than is prescribed. Be sure you read the patient information booklet provided to you when you pick up your medication to learn proper use of this solution.

To apply Generic Latisse for eyelash growth, you should first wash your face and hands and remove any makeup and contact lens. Do not reinsert the contact lenses for at least 15 minutes after applying this solution. Generic Latisse contains a preservative that breaks down the lenses. Place a drop of the medication onto the applicator and draw the applicator carefully across the skin of the upper eyelid margin. Be sure to blot any excess solution that touches the skin beyond the eyelid margin. Repeat this process for the other upper eyelid. Generic Latisse is not to be used on bottom eyelashes.

If you are ordered to use two different eye solutions, wait at least 5 minutes between the times you apply these medicines. This will allow the first medication time to work and prevent the second one from washing out the first one.
