Careprost is available as ophthalmic solution or eye drops. Brimatoprost is the active ingredient present in Careprost and it is a synthetic structural analog of prostaglandin. So it functions similar to the prostaglandin which is naturally present in your body. Careprost is used to treat the excessive intraocular pressure (pressure inside the eyes) in glaucoma and ocular hypertension patients. If the intraocular pressure is decreased, the progression of glaucoma can be controlled. It can also be used to lengthen and thicken the eyelashes in people with hypotrichosis.

Careprost

Mechanism of action: The intraocular pressure is increased due to the increased production or accumulation of the fluid called as aqueous humor in the eye. Increased eye pressure damages the optic nerve and thereby leads to the loss of vision. The outflow of the aqueous humor from the eye is increased by brimatoprost. So the result is decreased eye pressure and thereby it reduces the risk of damaging the optic nerve and prevents loss of vision.

Brimatoprost can thicken and lengthen the eyelashes by increasing the length of the eyelash growth phase and by increasing the number of eye lashes produced in the growth phase.

How to use Careprost: The method of application is different for eyelash growth and for glaucoma and ocular hypertension. But whatever is the treatment, first you have to remove the makeup, wash your face and hands to prevent any contamination. Contamination of the solution causes serious side effects. Do not touch the tip of the bottle with any other surface. Contact lenses should be removed before applying the drops because Careprost contains benzalkonium chloride as a preservative and it can interact with contact lenses. You can put the contact lenses after 15 minutes.

For glaucoma or ocular hypertension: Careprost should be used once daily, mostly in the evening and one drop at a time into the affected eye. Your doctor may recommend a different dose based on your condition. Blot the fluid which comes into contact with any other part on the face. Once you stop using Careprost, the intraocular pressure again increases. So you have to use it continuously as recommended by your doctor.

For eyelash growth: You should apply one eye drop at the base of the upper eyelashes and spread it along the margin of the eyelids. Blot the fluid which comes into contact with any other part on the face. If the drops enter into your eye, there is no need to worry. Similarly apply it in the other eye. Do not use Careprost for lower eyelashes. Difference can be observed after 2 months and the maximum eyelash growth can be seen after 3-4 months. Once you stop using Careprost, then the appearance of eyelashes is back to the original state. If you want the results then you have to apply it continuously as recommended by your doctor.

Careprost side effects: Careprost may cause side effects such as eye discomfort, skin pigmentation around the eye, darkening of iris, headache, dizziness and flu like symptoms. If the side effects worsen or persist, then consult your doctor immediately. In few cases, serious side effects such as severe eye pain, eye burning, eye redness (conjunctival hyperemia), inflammation of the eyelid (blepharitis), inflammation of the eye (conjunctivitis), disturbances in the vision, light sensitivity, difficulty in breathing, eye discharge, swelling of the lips, face, tongue and throat may occur. Then seek medical advice immediately.

Careprost precautions: Careprost should not be used by pregnant or lactating women or children.

You should not use Careprost if you have any kidney or liver or respiratory diseases or if you are allergic to brimatoprost or any other products containing brimatoprost.

If you are using any other medicines along with Careprost, you should discuss with your doctor.

If you use contact lenses, follow the instructions given by your doctor or present in the information leaflet while using Careprost.

Careprost should not be used for eyelash growth if you are already using it for glaucoma or ocular hypertension.
